Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection Officer to join our Compliance team, with responsibility for data protection and privacy compliance. Are you a GDPR star? Can you think strategically and take lead on data protection as Zilch continues to grow?

Zilch is an over-the-top (OTT) BNPL product that allows its customers to shop wherever Mastercard is accepted and spread their payment over 6 weeks for zero interest and zero fees whenever they chose to buy from one of Zilch’s 5,000+ retail affiliate partners!

We are the first FCA regulated Buy Now Pay Later in the country. We have exciting and ambitious growth plans happening over the next 12 – 18 months and we want YOU to be an integral part of our growth journey as we hit exponential growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting standards and reviewing policies and procedures that meet the requirements under the UK GDPR and any other regional or local data protection requirements applicable to Zilch
  • Serving as the primary point of contact and liaison for the ICO on all data protection related matters under the GDPR
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders on the review vendor contracts, data processing agreements and consents needed to implement projects in partnership with the company’s Procurement and Information Security functions
  • Working alongside data scientists, business leaders, product teams to make build the data rails that make Zilch work.
  • Design and implement well optimised data models in our data warehouse.
  • Assist in ad-hoc development and data dictionary related duties.
  • Building and embedding data quality processes.
  • Interpreting data requirements and proposing data solutions.
  • Work closely with other members of the extended data team, to ensure the reliability and stability of our data platform.
  • Supporting business users across the company, enabling self-serve through BI tools, such as Looker.
  • Collaborating with engineers to design and enhance our pipelines of new & existing data sources.
  • Developing and delivering data protection and security training to various business functions and collaborating with the Information Security function to raise employee awareness of security issues
  • Monitoring changes to privacy laws and making recommendations when appropriate
  • Coordinating and conducting data privacy audits

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years data protection and privacy experience in a fast-paced, professional environment
  • CIPP/E, CIPM, ISEB or other privacy certification
  • In-depth knowledge of GDPR, UK Data Protection Law
  • Knowledge of International Data Protection Laws advantageous
  • Understanding of intra-group Data Protection regulation
  • You’ll be an excellent communicator and a real team player, able to work effectively with a range of business stakeholders across multiple business units, ideally globally.
  • You’ll have a good understanding of information technologies and data security, with demonstrable ability to deliver quality and accuracy of work at all times and ideally an understanding of M&A.
  • Advanced SQL, with the understanding of how to write well optimised queries.
  • An understanding of data warehousing solutions, as well as their structure/design.
  • Extensive experience in data modelling, to enable accurate and reliable reporting, which will also be used for self-serve.
  • Development experience working with BI tools, such as Looker.
  • 3+ years’ experience working with data warehousing/lake architectures, ideally working in a start-up environment.
  • Strong experience in data modelling (e.g. DBT, RedShift, BigQuery, Airflow etc )
  • Strong understanding of Data Quality tooling and methods.
  • Good stakeholder management experience and the ability to prioritise delivery.
