Job Description

Moneysupermarket Group’s mission is to help households save money, we supply products from over 800 financial providers to more than 24 million unique monthly visitors, helping UK households save approx. £2bn each year, something we’re incredibly proud of. However, our market is highly competitive and our customers deserve even more, so we’re constantly improving our platform, products and ways of working. Our products are built by highly collaborative teams of product managers, designers, developers, QAs, data scientists and DevOps engineers. For 2021 we’ve made exciting changes to our Product Engineering model, to take things to the next level – strengthening the relationship between Product & Technology, unlocking and empowering our engineers to focus on what matters most, creating a more dynamic and inclusive culture and an increased focus on high performance and attracting the best talent in the industry.

Principal Developers are the force multipliers at Moneysupermarket. You will work with peers, product, engineers and teams to design and implement world class technology that drives customer outcomes. You’ll be contributing hands on across large projects and multiple teams, providing guidance and expertise whilst contributing to the longer-term strategy. You’ll foster best practices whilst inspiring other engineers to grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Dive into our technology by pair programming with engineers.
  • Meet your teams, peers and key stakeholders and begin to build relationships.
  • Learn how Moneysupermarket operates, our principles, history and where we’re heading.
  • Understand the landscape and roadmap of the systems you work with.
  • Complete our onboarding, training sessions and all the usual gubbins.
  • Become part of our wider architecture community, helping to define our architectural and technical strategy and ensuring our principles, standards and practices are upheld in your area.
  • Lead the design and development of technology that successfully meets the objectives and outcomes for your area and the broader group.
  • Ensure our products are efficient and scalable for years to come.
  • Share technical knowledge, insight and leadership to peers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate to others a better way of doing things.
  • Enable and empower product engineering teams with their technology decisions

Requirements:

  • You are experienced & capable with modern programming principles, practices & patterns and able to evangelise, train and support around them.
  • You’re an expert agile software development practitioner, both development practices (e.g. TDD, CI/CD) and ways of working.
  • Have excellent understanding of (and working experience with) full infrastructure stack and cloud architecture.
  • You’ve previously been (or still are) an engineer at a senior level from any background or discipline.
  • You have proven experience with driving the strategy, design, development and maintenance of large-scale applications in a continuous delivery environment
  • You can scale across teams and the wider community, helping stakeholders understand technical complexity.
