Job Description

The main strand of this role is focused on leadership. Immingham is the largest freight port by tonnage in the United Kingdom and encompasses some 6 square miles. This is a demanding role which requires a confident communicator who is focused on establishing and building positive relationships with the port, the operators within it and our law enforcement partners. The post holder is required to lead a large team to manage border security, but also drive change initiatives and improve culture.
Yorkshire & Humber Command covers the east coast of England from Boston to Whitby. The Command takes in the busy maritime ports of Hull and Immingham as well as the busy regional airports of Leeds Bradford Airport and Doncaster Sheffield Airport. In addition, there are a host of smaller regional airports, airfields and smaller maritime ports.
At a time of real transformational change in the Command and specifically this port, you will lead on port operator engagement. There are a number of projects either in progress or about to be commissioned in the port and the successful applicant will be the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for these. This will involve liaising with key partners across the Home Office and other OGDs, as well as commercial partners and other agencies with an interest at the UK Border. The successful candidate will lead some of these, but will facilitate successful delivery through collaborative working for the others.

 

Responsibilities:

• The Leadership and Management Team Leader Level 3 programme provides practical learning on different leadership styles, organisational cultures, team management models and the importance of personal development.
• This Leadership training will enable ultimate recognition of excellence in this area and will be a pre-requisite of being able to compete effectively for higher level roles in Border Force and the Home Office.
• This apprenticeship offers you a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop your leadership and management skills while operating in a frontline Border Force environment. Following successful completion of the programme you will gain a nationally recognised qualification.
• As part of our commitment to your development, following successful recruitment and onboarding, you will be offered the chance to enrol onto our Leadership and Management apprenticeship programme.
• As part of the apprenticeship enrolment process you will undertake an enhanced eligibility assessment with the programme provider. If following this assessment, it emerges you do not meet eligibility, you will receive comparable Leadership and
• Management training through an in-house offer.

 

Requirements:

• You must have GCSE, or equivalent, Grade C or above in Maths and English or are willing to complete level 2 Maths and English functional skills by the end of the apprenticeship.
• You will spend approximately 20% of your time undertaking off-the-job learning activities, including face-to-face workshops, digital courses, mentoring and job shadowing.
• You will undertake an End-Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of the scheme, which you will need to pass in order to complete your apprenticeship.
• The Leadership and Management Apprenticeship programme takes approximately 12 – 18 months to complete.
• This is a Level 3 apprenticeship – equivalent to an A Level qualification.
