Position Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

As the Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will ensure compliance with the DEA and the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy regulations regarding handling controlled and non-controlled medications. In this position, you will work with a pharmacist and a team of nurses and pharmacy technicians, ensuring that medical clinics receive medications within the Maricopa County Jails.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides healthcare to patients inside the Maricopa County Jails
  • Manages and scans medications into the clinic from the pharmacy vendor
  • Reconciles, inventories, receives, and monitors for outdated medications to maintain established clinic PAR level
  • Assists clinic nurses with patient-specific medication refills, returns medications, and accurately documents findings and processes
  • Manages controlled medications for all CHS clinics by ordering replacement stock to maintain clinic PAR level, destroys abandoned patient-specific medications, audits all controlled medication sign out sheets for compliance, and monitors methadone sign out sheets and shift counts to ensure clinics are within DEA guidelines
  • Works with the contracted pharmacy to reduce fiscal waste of non-returnable medications, along with managing and recording the destruction of unused 340B medications
  • Manages the distribution and accountability of immunizations supplied by Public Health to ensure compliance with the Vaccines for Adults program
  • Maintains medications on provider cart by ordering replacement stock when needed and replacing outdated medication
  • Assists with medication transfer between clinics when needed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A certification as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Must complete an MCSO-HR fingerprint/background check
  • Pharmacy experience in a high-volume retail store or hospital setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
