We are searching for Sergeants with excellent leadership skills to work as Custody Sergeants in one of our three custody units; Patchway, Keynsham and Bridgwater.

Responsibilities:

• The role has a 2 year tenure, all applicants will undertake a 4 week course and 4 – 6 weeks in house tutorship/mentoring program prior to being accepted for the role.
• Sergeant who have previously carried out the custody role may well be exempt from this requirement.
• Dependent on experience and previous service etc.
• You will be expected to determine the appropriate course of action for each detained person and ensure a secure and safe environment whilst allowing an expeditious investigation in accordance with PACE, Codes of Practice, consistent with the principals of the CPS guidelines, Home Officer policy, force policy and any other relevant legislation.
• You will also supervise and lead 2 to 3 Detention Officers ensuring effective performance of the running of the Custody function.
• There may well be opportunities to carry out the Acting Custody Inspector roles for qualified Sergeants showing the relevant drive, leadership and professionalism.
